$200,000 embezzlement from car dealership lands woman jail sentence

KALAMAZOO, MI -- A former longtime accountant of a Kalamazoo car dealership was sentenced to jail time after embezzling more than $200,000.

Allison Haley-Brown, 34, of Portage, was sentenced this week by Kalamazoo County Circuit Court Judge Pamela L. Lightvoet to 180 days in jail and five years of probation in the theft from Harold Zeigler Automotive. She also was ordered to pay more than $200,000 in restitution plus court fines and costs.

Police say Haley-Brown, an office accountant and a 14-year employee of the company embezzled $222,411 from the money from January 2014 to May 2017.

Haley-Brown pleaded guilty Jan. 30 to one count of embezzlement of more than $100,000. In exchange for her plea, one felony count of using a computer to commit a crime was dismissed.
