Carolers call out Republican lame-duck efforts outside Snyder condo

“I want our governor, who chooses to live in our city, to protect our democracy and veto the lame-duck session, all the stuff they’re doing to subvert the democratic vote that just happened,” said artist John Gutoskey, 56, of Ann Arbor. “... The thing that’s arguably the most upsetting is that they’re (using) trickery.”
Before Gretchen Whitmer picks up her veto pen in January, Republicans in the state legislature have been attempting to amend several voter-passed initiatives to curb gerrymandering, reduce voting restrictions and legalize recreational marijuana.
They’ve also proposed loosening existing laws that require employers to award sick time and raise the minimum wage to $12 by 2022 -- 2024 for tipped workers.

I’m going to do, is the one that calls for the elimination of the ability for a legislature to alter any voter initiated referendum, constitutional amendment, or otherwise alter a law that has been approved by the voters, until at least 180 days have passed since the date of the subject election.

This should be known as the cooling off period, and current legislators should not be able to alter either voter approved legislation, nor laws adopted by the legislature as the result of a petition, until the next legislature is seated.

Those bastards adopted sick leave so that voters couldn’t vote after we collected 400,000 signatures to put it on the balllt, and then turned around and outlawed it again after the election, but before it took effect.

There is a name for people who do crap like that.

Good for you!

The Republicans don't even pretend anymore, they just HATE democracy and they hate Americans having the right to vote

A few days ago I tried calling Governor Rick Snyder's office to let him know how I feel about this lame duck republican sneak attack on the voters of Michigan, his mail box is full and they will no longer receive emails. I don't think he has any integrity but if he doesn't veto these ridiculous bills he will leave as a failure for Michigan.

You're not a governor either.

We need more Dems in the state legislature and more women.
