Minnesota Extreme Fishing Opener 2013

There is always drama around Minnesota's fishing opener because it is almost always scheduled the weekend of Mother's Day. It contributes to the economy in Mother's day gifts, fishing gear and travel and the subsequent therapy for families who are wracked with guilt, frustration or remorse for not being able to have it all.

This year we are adding even more drama because the ice is not out on the Lakes North of the Twin Cities aka "up Nord" and we will have chilly 40's temperature rain plus 40 mile an hour winds. I don't know what happens to waterlogged boats of shivering fisherman that are thrown at floating ice but we are going to find out.

Fishing opener in Minnesota, is a BIG deal. People are watching the webcam like a space shuttle launch. I've fished openers in the snow, in a snowmobile suit, but never ever remember lakes still iced over.

Even if the ice was off the lakes the fish are not gonna be moving much
because the water is too cold.

Middle of the week looks like some 70s and maybe some 80s till then you
can always watch Babe Winkleman reruns.
