Will Jackson's water emergency this weekend affect you?

If you lost pressure or water altogether when Jackson began repairing a water line break on Forrest Avenue Feb. 10 and 11, you're likely to be impacted in the same capacity this weekend.

The city has planned the outage in order to repair three breaks on a 48-inch concrete water main spanning three miles in northwest Jackson.

To prepare affected residents, the city created a map of pinpoints showing which households called to report water issues that weekend. The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency turned that data into a map of the projected area affected, which is bound on the east by I-55 and stretches west past I-220. It runs as far north as Northside Drive and as far south as Byram, encompassing a long stretch of Terry Road.

MEMA estimates the water in 40,000 households will be impacted, or roughly 60 percent of the city, for around 30 hours beginning when the city shuts the water off at 3 p.m. Friday. It also projects Jackson water customers north of U.S. 80 could lose water pressure, while those south could experience lower pressure or a total outage. Some elevated areas in the city could lose water regardless of where they are inside the affected area.
