When Missouri repealed a key gun law, few protested. The result: More deaths than ever

KANSAS CITY — Frank Randle was pulling his truck onto the parking lot of 9ine Ultra Lounge for his shift as a security guard at the club in January 2020 when chaos broke out.

Gunshots pierced the frigid air as people ran in all directions, screaming and trampling each other. In his rearview mirror, he saw a woman on the ground bleeding.

Just feet from his truck, Randle saw a man with a Draco AK-style rifle firing into a crowd of people waiting to get into the nightclub. The shooting killed a young woman and injured 16 people.

“At that point, I had done security work for many different venues for 15 years. But that one night, that was just the one that was the most unreal one I have ever been a part of,” said Randle, who has since stopped working security because he no longer felt safe.

big issues w/ violence, and guns, at downtown locations. To be fair, shootings do occur throughout the city and not just downtown, and the city (and city residents) have long tried to deal w/ the guns repeatedly over time...HA, the mayor was holding a news conference about gun violence and as she was speaking, you could hear gunshots going off on the newscast at the same time.

Downtown and some of its bars seem to be the center of such violence, one bar in particular was shut down for one whole year, and I suspect in part due to their very irresponsible manner in responding to gun violence that occurred within their premises, not cooperating w/ police when they showed up, etc.

ST. LOUIS — By the time city liquor control officers reached Reign Restaurant’s front door one Saturday in May, it was 1:50 a.m., way past closing time. They could see people still drinking inside, but when the officers tried to enter, a “very large” security officer blocked their path.

--me) patrons were sneaking out the back door w/ drinks in hand;
--me) this bar and patrons were ignoring all COVID social distancing rules, masks, etc. (pisses me off as the bars I go to do maintain COVID safety rules, masks, etc.). This bar was flouting the rules openly and for a long time;

I didn't reproduce the entire article on the violence spewed at Reign's in downtown STLMO, it doesn't need to be repeated here, but I will say as a city residence, with friends that live in the downtown portion of STLMO, I'm glad that they finally acted against Reign's...if you wanted a place that literally didn't care about the neighborhood, or the people that lived down there, this is the place. Good. There are enough responsible businesses that do care about preventing violence, and protecting the citizens of the city.
