Glause to pay over $110K in restitution for Kearney High School, church vandalism

KEARNEY — A Kearney man must pay more than $110,000 in restitution and serve jail time for causing extensive damage to Kearney High School and Cornerstone Berean Church in November.

Mason Glause, 22, was placed on two years probation Tuesday in Buffalo County District Court for two misdemeanor counts of criminal mischief, causing intentional property damage at KHS between $1,500 and $5,000. Judge John Marsh ordered him to serve 30 days in jail and pay a total of $110,567 in restitution

Under his probation, Glause must attend the 12-step recovery program twice per week, complete individual counseling, classes in crime/victim empathy, relapse group/prevention, and a men’s group. Marsh gave him three days credit for time already served.

Glause’s attorney, Greg Harris of Kearney, listed several of Glause’s attributes, including his lack of criminal record, and said the incident was out of character for him. Glause wrote apology letters to both of his victims, and Harris entered into evidence letters of recommendation on Glause’s behalf along with an independent polygraph test.
