NYC tech industry near same levels as before dot-com crash of 90s: DiNapoli

The city's tech industry is booming to nearly record levels, with almost 7,000 firms centered in New York - the highest number since before the dot-com crash of the 1990s, according to a new report from the state controller's office.

The industry added 25,000 jobs from 2009 to 2013, with an average salary of $118,600. That's 50 percent higher than the average salary for all over city jobs of $79,500 the report found.

The sector is also expanding at a far faster rate than other industries, with a 33 percent growth rate over the past four years, according to the four-page report. The rest of the city's economy has grown at just eight percent.
