Parade for veterans who served in Iraq, Afghanistan gaining steam, advocate says

Momentum is growing for a Big Apple ticker-tape parade for Iraq and Afghanistan war soldiers, with one leading advocate saying it could happen this fall.

The parade could be held as part of the city’s Veterans Day celebration on Nov. 11 and would cost between $5 million and $7 million, said Vincent McGowan, president of the United War Veterans Council.

“We will pull out all the stops,” said McGowan, who testified at the City Council’s Veterans Committee Hearing on a resolution calling for the parade.
