De Blasio still says health care will be ‘saved’

By Sally Goldenberg and Dan Goldberg

Mayor Bill de Blasio said Tuesday it that had not been premature to host a victorious press conference in February about the fate of Long Island College Hospital, which will now continue as a dramatically scaled-down medical facility.

'I'm convinced health care will be saved. I don't have any question about that," the mayor said in response to a question about whether he "regrets" holding the City Hall announcement on Feb. 21 when he praised a settlement agreement between SUNY, labor unions and community advocates.

That settlement led to renewed hopes a full-service operator might purchase LICH.
