Crews Work To Clean Up Lower Manhattan Water Main Break

NY1News

Crews are working to clean up after a water main break Friday night in Lower Manhattan.

It happened at around 11:30 p.m. at Madison Street and St. James Place.

The Department of Environmental Protection said that water has been shut off to businesses in the immediate area, but said it is safe to drink.

The cause of the break is unclear.

Madison Street is currently closed from Oliver Street to St. James Place, while St. James Place is closed between Oliver Street and the Brooklyn Bridge.

there was one uptown. we were at a friend's house. our car got flooded. we took a cab home to queens and hubby went back the next day to get our car. the water line was up to the door handle. fortunately it started up -- many cars didn't. hubby took it to get the fluids changed, but it smelled really bad. a neighbor of my mother in law had some stuff to clean out the inside. it got the smell out.

i never felt the same about that car. we traded it in about 6 months later.
