City Council members, union heads call on Mayor de Blasio to halt 911 emergency call system

Elected officials and a host of union leaders called on Mayor de Blasio to take the next step after halting the city's problem-plagued overhaul of the city's 911 system, and put a stop to the bungled 911 emergency call project.
The Unified Call Taker project, as the 911 emergency call system is known, is plagued by computer glitches and forces callers to repeat themselves because wires get crossed between the NYPD and FDNY.
City Councilwoman Elizabeth Crowley, along with representatives from the Uniformed Firefighters Association, the Uniformed Fire Officers Association other unions, said those problems make the response times for life-threatening emergencies too long.
