No GOP opponents for Sen. Savino and Assemblyman Titone, but vote suppression theory could backfire

Tom Wrobleski

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Staten Island Republicans came out of their recent convention without candidates to run against state Sen. Diane Savino (D-North Shore/Brooklyn) and Assemblyman Matt Titone (D-North Shore).

Vote suppression, anyone?

With Rep. Michael Grimm (R-Staten Island/Brooklyn) struggling, it would behoove Republicans to keep turnout low on the North Shore, a Democratic bastion. Refraining from running candidates against Ms. Savino and Titone is one way to do that.

But don't suggest that to GOP chairman John Antoniello.
