MCC tuition to rise 5.4 percent for full-time students

James Goodman, Staff writer

Local students attending Monroe Community College in the fall on a full-time basis can expect to pay $176 more in tuition than students paid this past school year.

The 5.4 percent increase will bring the full-time tuition to $3,416 per year.

MCC's board of trustees approved the tuition increase at its meeting Monday as well as an overall budget of $126.9 million, which marks a 3.2 percent increase over expenditures for this fiscal year, which ends August 31.

Monroe County, which is the local sponsor of MCC, is being asked to increase its contribution by $500,000 — from $18.9 million to $19.4 million.

That is really still a great deal. So for two years of college, you pay around 6900 dollars. It is actually the second two years that are going to really hit the wallet.

It is the full universities that are getting expensive. Most of the private are the worst. Although if you chose to go either to a private college or even worse "out of state" then I have little sympathy for those expenses you will incur. There are plenty of public colleges that will give you a well rounded education that won't put you completely in the poor house for life.

If I could go back in time I would have done the 2+2 program at what the locals call Henrietta U!
