Agri-tourism cluster sprouts new growth

DAN HEATH Press-Republican

CHESTERFIELD — A new generation of young farmers is working to create an agri-tourism cluster along a short stretch of Mace Chasm Road with the assistance of the Adirondack North Country Association.

Mace Chasm Farm, North Country Creamery at Clover Mead Farm and AuSable Brewing Company are all located within about one mile of each other. Each is in the midst of new projects to highlight the availability of high-quality, home-grown products in the North Country.

Courtney Grimes-Sutton and Asa Thomas-Train are in their second year at Mace Chasm Farm, located at 810 Mace Chasm Road. Grimes-Sutton said it is rewarding to be part of the agri-tourims movement.

They are opening a butcher shop on the premises, with one side dedicated to beef, lamb and pork and the other to chicken. The shop falls under the jurisdiction of the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets.
