Environmental groups want brownfield cleanup program re-funded before session ends

By Seamus Lyman

The current legislative session is coming to an end and advocates for a cleaner environment are urging lawmakers to add funding and make changes to the Brownfield Cleanup Program.

In a teleconference Tuesday, supporters of new legislation called upon Gov. Andrew Cuomo to sit down with members of the Senate and Assembly to hash out a bill they can all agree on before heading home for the summer.

"These are sites at risk if legislators and the governor don't come to the table this year," said Laura Haight, senior environmental Associate at New York Public Interest Research Group.
