Schenectady
The County Legislature voted unanimously 13 to 0 in favor of a resolution supporting the $300 million Rivers Casino & Resort at Mohawk Harbor that a prominent gaming operator and well known local developer wants to build on the former Alco brownfields site in Schenectady as part of a waterfront mixed used building project. Two members were absent.
The bipartisan action Tuesday night by the panel took place less than 24 hours after Schenectady City Council members voted 5 to 2 to back an identical resolution after dozens of speakers spoke for and against the casino.
The legislators also voted overwhelmingly Tuesday to support a second casino-related resolution to use the estimated $5.7 million in host fees the city of Schenectady could realize, if it is awarded a casino, toward property tax relief.

TYRE Casino Free Tyre is appealing Acting State Supreme Court Justice W. Patrick Falveys May 12 ruling dismissing the groups request to declare the towns Planned Unit Development law null and void.
The town amended its zoning code Feb. 20. Rochester-based Wilmorite, which is interested in building a $350 million casino and resort on an 83-acre parcel of land east of Route 414, just north of the Thruway, has since submitted a site plan.
In a summary judgment, Falvey ruled the PUD legislation was enacted properly; the notice of public hearing was sufficient; the PUD was in keeping with the towns comprehensive plan and wasnt spot zoning; and the actions of town officials werent fraudulent or negligent.
Attorney Mario Fratto of Geneva, who is representing Casino Free Tyre, filed the appeal Friday with the Fourth Judicial Department of state Supreme Courts Appellate Division in Rochester.
