Lawmakers back NYC tax break for solar panels

By MICHAEL VIRTANEN

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — Property tax breaks for installing electricity-generating solar panels on New York City buildings would be extended under a bill passed by state legislators.

Strengthening the existing incentive program will help hasten a transition to a green economy, said Assembly member Linda Rosenthal, a Manhattan Democrat who sponsored the bill.

"Encouraging New York City residents to invest in clean, safe and renewable energy is critical if we are serious about reducing global warming emissions," she said.

GENEVA — Now that approval from the town Planning Board has been secured, QwikSolar hopes to start work on its 212 Carter Road solar farm next month.

When it’s done, it will be the largest one in Ontario County.

The Planning Board approved QwikSolar’s site plan Tuesday after several months of review that included a change in town law.

“They’re pleased and encouraged to be having this project in the town of Geneva,” Code Enforcement Officer Bill McAdoo said.
