Hotline launched for state government staffers to report sexual harassment and other complaints
KENNETH LOVETT
ALBANY - Sexually harassed state legislative staffers beginning this week will have another place to bring their complaints to be investigated.
The state Joint Commission on Public Ethics is set to unveil a new hotline that state government staffers and tipsters can call to report sexual harassment or other complaints dealing with corruption and nepotism, sources said.
"Improper conduct will not be tolerated," said a state official familiar with the rollout. "And victims and witnesses will now have a place to go to safely file a complaint that will be fully investigated."
Fed up with rampant sexual harassment that has plagued the Assembly, Gov. Cuomo proposed the new complaint hotline for state employees. The state budget adopted in March set aside $200,000 for the effort.
