Appellate court knocks down challenge to Big Tupper development
Matthew Hamilton
In a unanimous decision Thursday, the state Supreme Court appellate division strongly rebuked a challenge to the Adirondack Club and Resort in Franklin Countys Tupper Lake by the advocacy group Protect the Adirondacks!, siding with the Adirondack Park Agency.
The decision denied a laundry list of claims made by Protect the Adirondacks!, which has been among the groups the construction of a resort on the land around the Big Tupper Ski Resort. The project won approval from the APA in January 2012 with a near unanimous vote.
In statement, APA Chairwoman Leilani Ulrich said the ruling validates the APAs review process and that the agency believes the project will be a transformational economic development opportunity for Tupper Lake and the Adirondack Park.
We now look forward to working with the community to bring this project to fruition, Ulrich said.
