Police: At Least 1 Dead After Small Plane Goes Down In Long Island Sound

MATTITUCK, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) — At least one person is dead after a small plane apparently went down in the water in the Long Island Sound, Southold police said.

The Federal Aviation Administration said the Coast Guard found the plane submerged in the water about four miles north of Mattituck Inlet Monday morning.

The call came in shortly before 9 a.m. from the pilot of another plane who reported seeing an aircraft in the water, the Coast Guard said.
