New York
Related: About this forumWhere to visit in NYC?
Okay but here's the qualifier. No touristy crap allowed. I used to live in Hell's kitchen about 7 years ago and I want to visit this fall.
Suggest some cool restaurants clubs and a place I can hear some good guitar rock. Opaline, CB's, Don Hill's have all closed since I left.
Some places I'm heading:
Mercury Lounge
Crif Dogs
Soup Nazi,
Literary walking tour of the Village
Malcom Forbes Museum
Frick Collection
Terra Blues
Cigar bars
Hole in One - Scotch drinkers, google this bar.
Not so famous movie locations - Taxi Driver apt bldg, Ghostbusters HQ, NYPD Blue bldg,
Some not so famous interesting buidlings - Exchange, NY Life Ins North bldg, Friends bldg, Lever bldg.
Beretta store on Madison ave.
Five Points.
I'm also attending the Wiskey Fest.
Webster Hall
So no Today Show, no Carriage in Central Park, no Empire State Building. I like the little things to be found in the city. Ever been to the 4th st subway station with all it's little sculptures? That interests me more than Rockefeller Center does. What else? (I'll be visiting the bar that I take my username from as well.)

(11,330 posts)yes its touristy but so far out of the way and so different than what you can see in other cities that I always loved to take people there.
Also Cathedral of Saint John the Divine after all how often do you have the chance to see a cathedral still under construction.
...and I used to take people there when they visited me. Just fly up the A line at light speed and you're there.
You know, I never did make it to that big Cathedral. That's a good suggestion.

(13 posts)I am a native New Yorker who grew up and still lives in Hell's Kitchen, neighborhood is constantly changing, if you are looking for a fun NYC Dive bar the Blue Ruin on 40th street and 9th avenue is a great place for happy hour. As far as places to check out the NYC Tenement museum is really cool, if you like roast beef grab a sandwich at This Little Piggy on 9th street and 1st Avenue.
