Protestors To Call For Federal Probe In Wake Of Staten Island Man’s Death While In Police Custody

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) — Protestors are expected to rally at City Hall on Monday to call for a federal investigation after a Staten Island man died in police custody after being put in a chokehold.

While the exact cause of Eric Garner’s death has not been determined, organizers of Monday’s rally said the incident is just one example of a bigger problem.

“We don’t see this case as, necessarily an instance of a rogue police officer or a bad police officer, but we see it more within the context of a cultural of violence that is pervasive within the NYPD,” said organizer Nick Malinowksi.

Meanwhile, two EMTs and two paramedics removed from the city’s emergency response system are the latest public safety workers to face reassignment as questions continue to mount in Garner’s death.

the article also contains the following statement, exactly on cue:

Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association President Patrick J. Lynch called the decision to strip Pantaleo of his shield a “completely unwarranted, kneejerk reaction for political reasons and nothing more.”

This madness isn't going to stop. Let's all pity the NYPD for having to face criticism seems to be the message.
