New York airports losing out on grant funds, study finds

Ryan Hutchins

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey’s three major airports received some of the lowest levels of federal grant funding in the nation last year, with each getting less than a dollar per passenger even as some smaller terminals received nearly $1,000 a head.

That’s according to a study released on Monday by the Global Gateway Alliance, which ranked 369 U.S. airports based on how much F.A.A. grant money each location received on a per-passenger basis.

Newark Liberty, John F. Kennedy and LaGuardia airports were all listed in the bottom 20, with Newark getting just 24 cents per passenger—the fourth-smallest award in the country. LaGuardia ranked eighth least, at 29 cents per passenger, and J.F.K. at 18th, with 56 cents per passenger.
