Gas pipeline plan fuels foes in Peekskill, Yorktown

Michael Risinit

Replacing a 26-inch-diameter pipeline with one that is 42 inches in diameter is like trading a one-lane road for a five-lane highway, said Jean Walsh of Peekskill.

Walsh was trying to explain her concern with Texas-based Spectra Energy's proposal to enlarge a natural gas pipeline that crosses Rockland, Westchester and Putnam counties on its way from the New Jersey border to the Massachusetts coast.

"The magnitude of risk is so much greater," she said.
