Wu slams absent Hochul on NY1

Conor Skelding

Candidate for lieutenant governor Tim Wu got a friendly reception on NY1's Inside City Hall on Wednesday evening, where he appeared without his opponent, Kathy Hochul.

Host Errol Louis noted that Hochul, like her running mate Andrew Cuomo, had declined the station's invitation to debate.

"Now we intended this to be a debate, but coincidentally you put out a one-minute video that has Kathy Hochul debating herself, and I thought that was gonna have to be the next best thing," Louis said, before airing a brutal Wu campaign video that juxtaposed Hochul's recent liberal statements with her conservative pitch to voters when she was running for re-election in a heavily Republican House district in 2012.

it's Cuomo I hate with the fire of a thousand suns.

Hochul won her House seat in a special election she wasn't supposed to win, but she got a plurality out of four candidates. Two of them split the wingnut vote, leaving her the middle vote, with a Green hopelessly lost. In the next election, a real Republican kicked her ass. It didn't help that she was redistricted to make the place even more rightwing.

So, I don't hold her feet to the fire for heading toward the right in a district of teabaggers. It was just something she had to do to get in the door.

The problem I'm left with on Hochul is just how ambitious she is to hang out with Cuomo? Is she holding her nose using this is a springboard, or doesn't she care who she pals around with?

Inquiring minds want to know.
