Cuomo allies attack Teachout for debate participation

ALBANY—Governor Andrew Cuomo's hand-picked Democratic chairman, David Paterson, attacked Cuomo's primary opponent Zephyr Teachout for sitting for a radio debate that Cuomo decided to skip.

Shortly afterward, Jeff Klein, who co-led a Cuomo-influenced, now-supposedly defunct coalition in the State Senate, weighed in, calling the debate a "sad gimmick."

WNYC host Brian Lehrer invited both Teachout, a Fordham law professor who has built her campaign on attacking Cuomo, as well as the governor himself to sit for an on-air debate Thursday morning. Teachout committed, and Cuomo demurred.
