Zephyr Teachout: My qualifications? I'm not under federal investigation

KEN LOVETT

With a day to go before Tuesday's primary, insurgent Democrat gubernatorial candidate Zephyr Teachout on Monday shot back at Gov. Cuomo by saying one of her main qualifications is that "I'm not under federal investigation."

Cuomo and his surrogates have attacked Teachout, a Fordham law school professor, and her runningmate, Columbia law school professor Tim Wu, for lacking the necessary qualifications to run the state. Cuomo on Sunday took direct aim at Wu by saying that experience matters for lieutenant governors.

3. Final Stretch in Democratic Primary

MARA GAY and ERICA ORDEN

At a church Sunday in Harlem, hundreds cheered loudly as Zephyr Teachout took the stage to talk about her improbable bid against New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo in Tuesday's Democratic primary.

"Just standing here I can feel your blessings, and I thank you for them," the Fordham University law professor said at First Corinthian Baptist Church.

As Ms. Teachout sprinted through a final weekend of campaigning at sometimes raucous events, where the enthusiasm for her liberalism was palpable, Mr. Cuomo's supporters were working behind the scenes on more traditional strategies to turn out voters.

Nor is she a narcissistic, venal, corrupt windbag.

To paraphrase Woody Allen... she could run on that platform in France and be elected.

Here it may not be enough. We'll see tomorrow.

Unfortunately.... I gotta think that Cuomo will vote for himself as will his partner. ( I wonder how ex-wife Kerry Kennedy will vote. Hmmm.... She's eligible.)

So 100% is impossible. Seriously... I have no idea. Almost everyone I know is planning to vote for her but that doesn't tell you much.

25% seems within reach. It's a low turnout primary... so that SHOULD help Teachout.

It takes the "name recognition" voters out of it. ( There are some people who'll vote thinking they're voting for Grampa Mario.)

Good.

A lot of people are going to start organizing for and donating time and $$$ to the Green Party starting Wednesday, assuming Status Cuomo squeaks by on Tuesday nite.

The real history this year MIGHT be the emergence of the Green Party as a significant force in NYS.

Maybe elsewhere also.
