Mayor de Blasio wants to take control of rent regulation from state lawmakers

The de Blasio administration hopes to take control of rent regulation from Albany — a dream that may come true if the Democrats win control of the state Senate in November.

Over the years, Republicans in the Senate have long opposed efforts by Democrats and tenant advocates to strengthen the rent regulation laws to make it harder for property owners to shift their apartments to the free market.
