In order to build a 65-story skyscraper in East Midtown Manhattan, developer SL Green says it will make more than $200 million in transit improvements to Grand Central Terminalchanges it detailed for the first time on Monday.
The renovationsrequired under a proposed rezoning of the neighborhoodwill essentially extend the station to the west, providing a public waiting area inside the new building and allow for better rider flow elsewhere. With the improvements, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority would be able to add one additional train per hour to the Lexington Avenue subway line.
SL Green said it expects to file its land-use application by the end of the month, kicking off a seven-month review process that will decide the fate of its plans for the 1.6-million-square-foot One Vanderbilt.
