New York City ban on ferrets as pets will remain.

The city's Board of Health voted Tuesday morning maintain a longtime ban on keeping ferrets as pets.

Ferrets are legal in most of the country, including the rest of New York State.

But the city specifically banned them in 1999.

The proposal to dump the ban would have required ferrets to be vaccinated for rabies, sterilized and restrained when outdoors.
