Cuomo gains CSEA endorsement after 2014 snub
Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo on Monday gained backing from the Civil Service Employees Association after the powerful union snubbed him during his last election in 2014.
The union, which represents thousands of government workers throughout the state, said in a statement that Cuomo has taken monumental steps to make sure unions are stronger than ever.
He has stood side by side with us to secure legislation that will keep public sector labor unions strong in New York, said CSEA President Danny Donohue.
The unions action is viewed as significant in the tough Democratic primary challenge Cuomo faces from actress-activist Cynthia Nixon, who is already endorsed by the labor-backed Working Families Party. It means the organization stands ready to commit money, manpower and phone banks to Cuomo's re-election effort.
