De Blasio rakes in $3.7 million

JONATHAN LEMIRE | AP

NEW YORK (AP) -- New York City mayoral hopeful Bill de Blasio is set to announce that his campaign has raised $3.7 million over the last three weeks.

That's according to a campaign staffer for de Blasio, the Democrat nominee. The person is not authorized to publicly discuss fundraising and therefore spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity.

De Blasio's total dwarfs the approximately $700,000 raised during the same period by his Republican rival Joe Lhota.

Lhota's total was also revealed by a campaign staffer not authorized to discuss fundraising.

Unless he needs it to retire his debt, we'd all be better off of he just returned the $$$. Smarmie Doofus Oct 2013 #5

Sounds like a lotta moolah, but I guess I have no idea what's normal for a mayoral race in NYC. But this is very cool!

This is more normal. We have a city wide matching fund system.

People who are sending $$$ at this point are just buying influence.

If he returned the cash.... dB could concentrate on exclusively serving the interests of the people w/o money who are about to elect him.
