de Blasio poised to win a lopsided victory
By Matthew Dondiego
As Election Day draws near, a recent poll shows Bill de Blasio, the Democratic nominee to succeed outgoing Mayor Michael Bloomberg, has a dominant lead over his Republican rival Joe Lhota.
According to The New York Times/Siena College Poll, de Blasio has a commanding 45-point advantage, leading Lhota 68-23 percent among likely registered voters, showing little change from the poll released three weeks ago.
De Blasio's impressive lead should come as little surprise, as the poll revealed 62 percent of voters view him favorably compared to just 22 percent him view him unfavorably. Lhota, however, did not fare nearly as well with just 25 percent of voters viewing him favorably compared to 46 percent who view him unfavorably. Lhota is also plagued by his inability to raise his profile among the public with 27 percent of voters saying they have not heard enough about him to have an opinion.
"Approaching the homestretch of the campaign to choose New York's first new mayor in 12 years, Bill de Blasio is poised to win a lopsided victory over Joe Lhota," said Siena College pollster Steven Greenberg.
