NYRA sees profit while raising admissions, parking costs

by James M. Odato

The New York Racing Association on Monday unveiled its 2014 draft budget with estimates of a $250,000 operating profit based partly on increased charges for parking, box seats and admissions.

After factoring in video lottery terminal revenues from the racino at Aqueduct, NYRA’s profits would soar to $23.7 million. The association projects a total of $112.87 million in VLT revenues up from $110.76 million in 2013.

NYRA intends to put money into revenue generation. The $250,000 profit before VLT funds compares to a loss of $10.5 million in 2013. NYRA expects $31.3 million in VLT money in 2014 for capitol and $58.1 million in VLT money for purses.
