Casino siting board taking shape
By MATTHEW DONDIEGO
The New York State Gaming Commission has announced the first three members of the five-member casino siting board charged with selecting the locations for up to four Vegas-style casinos in upstate New York.
The Gaming Commission has recommended former New York City Comptroller Bill Thompson, business executive and former senior policy advisor to three governors Paul Francis, and Hofstra College President Stuart Rabinowitz. The three men are expected to be confirmed at the Commission's next meeting.
"These individuals have the expertise, objectivity and knowledge of New York State to evaluate the applications to operate destination resort casinos," said Mark Gearan, Gov. Andrew Cuomo's choice to head state Gaming Commission. "I thank them for their commitment to bringing much-needed economic development, revenue and jobs to Upstate New York."
Gearan will need to be confirmed for the position by the state Senate.
