Bill de Blasio takes on the Times

By Sally Goldenberg

Mayor Bill de Blasio started a public fight with the New York Times over its profile of the city's longtime sanitation commissioner, John Doherty, on Thursday afternoon.

The mayor, upset over the implication he does not support Doherty, called it "patently inaccurate and unfair."

The Times story noted that de Blasio hadn't mentioned Doherty at the press conference when he thanked other members of his team.

De Blasio delivered the comments about the Times without any prompting after a press conference in the Bronx to announce his wife's new position as the unpaid chair of the Mayor's Fund to Advance New York City.
