i like tuna, especially sashimi, but find tuna fish disgusting.

That's what I mean by it, too. He insists I am talking about tuna salad. But I am not. It's not salad till I throw a scoop of it on lettuce and cut up a tomato.

Usually your typical tuna mayo pickles some onions on wheat or white bread. It's a lot like using the word coke for any soda in the South.

Always spoke English with a Lithuanian accent charmed up by a southern drawl.

(As a child I assumed that acquiring an accent was a symptom of old age.)

living in the armpit of the south in NW Florida.

Why do you think this group are from NY?

Btw, for me it's either tuna fish salad stuffed tomato or a tuna fish salad sandwich with mayo, lettuce, tomato and onion. It's all good

so he has relatives everywhere.

He says the term is tuna salad. Saying tunafish is like saying beefmeat according to him. But I mean the tuna and mayo mashup with onions and the occasional celery. I NEVER say tuna salad.

I wanted to know if tunafish is simply NYC idiom.
