By Matthew Dondiego
Days after Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos said he would block a vote on the mayor of New York City's plan to increase income taxes to fund universal pre-K in the city; Bill de Blasio's plan took another hit as a Quinnipiac University poll revealed New York voters prefer the governor's alternative plan to implement statewide pre-K.
The poll shows 47 percent of all New Yorkers prefer Gov. Andrew Cuomo's proposal for universal pre-K funded by the state a plan that would not raise any taxes compared to just 37 percent who support de Blasio's proposal to raise city income taxes on residents earning more than $500,000 to expand pre-K in New York City.
New York City voters, by a margin of 49 40, prefer Cuomo's alternative funding proposal.
Cuomo's plan to implement pre-K without raising taxes is supported by 60 percent of Republicans; 48 percent of independents; 43 percent of upstate voters and 50 percent of suburban voters. Democrats however, support de Blasio's proposal 49 percent to 39 percent.
