NY'ers back Cuomo's pre-K plan

By Matthew Dondiego

Days after Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos said he would block a vote on the mayor of New York City's plan to increase income taxes to fund universal pre-K in the city; Bill de Blasio's plan took another hit as a Quinnipiac University poll revealed New York voters prefer the governor's alternative plan to implement statewide pre-K.

The poll shows 47 percent of all New Yorkers prefer Gov. Andrew Cuomo's proposal for universal pre-K funded by the state — a plan that would not raise any taxes — compared to just 37 percent who support de Blasio's proposal to raise city income taxes on residents earning more than $500,000 to expand pre-K in New York City.

New York City voters, by a margin of 49 – 40, prefer Cuomo's alternative funding proposal.

Cuomo's plan to implement pre-K without raising taxes is supported by 60 percent of Republicans; 48 percent of independents; 43 percent of upstate voters and 50 percent of suburban voters. Democrats however, support de Blasio's proposal 49 percent to 39 percent.

How will people be able to make a living as owners of the day care centers? I mean this will completely destroy that part of the economy. However, maybe the government will just pay them directly per child or something.

the more we can fix, an the less time (and money) it takes to do it.

But this is the second best option.
