City Relocates Families in Two Shelters Cited for Hazardous Conditions

NY1NEWS

The mayor's office says hundreds of children and their families are being moved from two of the city's dilapidated homeless shelters.

The de Blasio administration says it is working to find subsidized housing or temporary shelter for more than 400 children and families from the Auburn Family Residences in Fort Greene, Brooklyn and the Catherine Street shelter in Lower Manhattan.

State and city agencies say the facilities are unfit for children, with hundreds of violations for hazardous conditions.

The city's effort to move the families comes after The New York Times ran a series on conditions at Auburn.

those families in those dilapidated shelters. Glad he is gone. That shelter in Fort Greene was infamous for its horrid conditions. I know someone who was sexually assaulted by one of the security staff there some years back. She didn't report it cause she was afraid she would lose her shelter space in retaliation.
