Saratoga businesses not warming up to a new casino

By MATTHEW L. McKIBBEN

According to a newsletter for members of The Saratoga Springs Downtown Business Association, most of the business owners who took part in an informal poll oppose a Vegas-style, destination casino in their city.

In the survey, in which 40 percent of Downtown Business Association members responded, 54 members voted against casino expansion, 28 voted for casino expansion, two were in the middle and two were unsure.

The newsletter has since been pulled from the Downtown Business Association's website, but the group's president says the jury is still out on whether the business community will get behind a Vegas-style casino in Saratoga.

Jeffrey Clark, president of the DBA, is not ready to say the results of the survey represent the sentiment of the entire organization, saying his group will not take an official position until the Request for Application is released by the state, and only then will they begin to look at both sides of the issue and take a stance.
