Hard Winter Taxing Resources

ALISON FOX

It won't be as severe as originally predicted, but the latest storm to hit the winter-weary region will stretch already thin resources.

Southern New Jersey was expected to be hardest hit this time around, with 6 to 10 inches, said Mike Musher, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service. New York City, Long Island, southern Connecticut and much of northern New Jersey were expected to see 1 to 4 inches, he said.

But snow totals this year are already more than double what is typical for the region, and agencies have felt the financial burden, particularly with salt.
