Pro-de Blasio, Anti Charter School-Profiteers Rally Today in Manhattan at 4 pm.

Rally To Support de Blasio and Public Schools in Harlem Today, March 10 from 4:00 -5:00
March 10, 2014
Where: Outside PS/ MS 149
When : March 10, 4: 00- 5:00
41 W. 117th St between Lennox Ave and Fifth
Subway: 2 or 3 to 116th

Even as Mayor Bill de Blasio’s handling of the issue of charter school co-locations has disappointed many, it has signaled the end of the era when the likes of entrepreneur Eva Moskowitz is granted what ever entrepreneur Eva Moskowitz wants, regardless of how many public school children are displaced, short changed and treated as if they are second rate citizens.

Over the past week and more, Moskowitz has received absurdly favorable press in New York City papers, even as she once again removed children from schools during school hours, this time to bus them to Albany as if they were adult lobbyists. After years of incredibly favorable treatment by the Bloomberg administration, de Blasio has had the political courage to stand up to Moskowitz and her billionaire backers.

As a result, Moskowitz and her friends in the media are doing all they can to paint her and Success Academies as victims and create the false appearance of overwhelming public support for Moskowiz and the horrific and destructive policies of Mike Bloomberg. They have flooded the air-waves with slick, heart tugging commercials, engaging in a multi-million dollar public relations campaign designed to do nothing less than trick the public into forgetting that de Blasio won by a margin of 75% over Joe Llota, in large part because of de Blasio’s rejection of Bloomberg’s education policies, of which Moskowitz is such a perfect example. Tomorrow we have an opportunity to once again reaffirm the public will, let Moskowitiz’s billionaires know that they do not own our schools and our city, and let de Blasio know he is not alone.

Please, if you can, come and let your voices be heard loud and clear. Come and remind Moskowitz’s billionaire backers that we live in a democracy. Above all, come and help insure that all of our children are shown the dignity that all children deserve.

I have no problem with Charter Schools,
as long as they do NOT receive a single penny of Public Money,
especially money dedicated to our Public School System.

If someone thinks they need a Charter (Private) School,
it should be funded from private pockets.

Charter Schools are just another privatization scam to divert public money into the private pockets of the well connected,
and BUST the Teachers Union.

We already have a Public School System.
If it is broken,
it is OUR responsibility to Fix It,
not steal the money from it.

Good crowd for such short notice.. 100-150.... including mostly parents and local people. Some local teachers ( They took our lit while looking over their shoulders to see who might be watching.Yes, it's THAT bad for them. Bloomberg's gone, but the sycophantic psychopaths with whom he loaded up the ranks of the school bldg and district administrators are not. We'll have to wait for de Blasio or Letitia James to to get to working on ferreting them OUT.)

No amplification at the rally which made to hard to hear. ( I dunno if they failed to get the, permit or just didn't have time.

Pretty good turnout of local pols and luminaries. Gale Brewer, new Manhattan Bororugh president, Noah Gotbaum, well known UWS DEM party activist; Hazel Dukes of NAACP; a prominent local AA pastor, who's name escapes me at the moment; ( no not Calvin Butts). Patrick Walsh, MORE-UFT activist and the school's elected chapter leader .

Pretty good media... but I doubly that, unlike some protagonists in this ongoing drama, we PAY these people to come: TV: Ch 11, Ch 7, NY1, Time Warner something. Radio: WBAI, WNYC. Some print-types with note pads. not sure where they're from. Presumably newspapers.

The big question is not whiter they report on the rally but how they wish to present it. i.e. factually... or twistedly, reflecting the corporate, pro Charter bia$ of most of the outlets.

Thanks for helping me to get the word out.

They need to hear from parents and teachers that charter schools are not the answer.
