Senate bill would make it legal to be buried with your cremated pet

Great news for New Yorkers who want to be buried with the cremated remains of favorite pets: The state Senate has by a 60-0 vote approved bill, introduced by Republican Mike Ranzenhofer, that legalizes the interment of a pet’s cremated remains along with the burial of a human.

The bill amends not-for-profit corporation law, which now bans the burial of animals with humans.

The bill allows the practice “only if the (pet-cremain) burial is incidental to the burial of human remains.” It does not apply to incorporated or unincorporated cemeteries, or cemeteries that are owned or overseen by a religious corporation. This means that those cemeteries are not requir
