Gov. Cuomo Says No Mayor Should Be Able To Block The Growth Of Charter Schools
BY GLENN BLAIN
Gov. Cuomo said he wants to stop city mayors from being able to limit the growth of charter schools.
Cuomo, during an appearance on WNYCs The Brian Lehrer Show Friday morning, said he does not want to interfere with any mayors authority to grant co-location agreements but also stated that charter schools, once established, should not be aborted by any city.
Co-location, thats up to the mayor, Cuomo said. I dont want to see a system statewide where charter schools can be aborted by any mayor or any city.
Cuomo said he viewed the charter school debate as one of the most urgent conversations to be resolved in the upcoming state budget negotiations with the Legislature. The issue flared to prominence late last month after Mayor de Blasio cancelled co-location agreements for three charter schools.

Of course, conventional wisdom is usually wrong.
But he was in a strong position to try for a run, and he did put out feelers a few times, but backed away every time.
