DiNapoli nixes bridge painting contract
By Richard Moody
State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli rejected a state Department of Transportation's contract with a Queens-based company for painting bridges on Long Island due to its affiliation with two companies formerly debarred by the state for wage violations.
The DOT drew up a $4.7 million contract with Limnes Corp., a freight shipping and trucking company, to paint 13 DOT bridges in Nassau and Suffolk counties.
But as part of the comptroller's power to review all contracts drawn up by state agencies, a letter from the Comptroller's Office to the DOT outlines several concerns about the company, which led to the contract's rejection.
According to DiNapoli's office, the biggest concern is Limne's affiliation with the contracting company Matsos Contracting Corp., which the Department of Labor determined to be an alter ego of the GBE Contracting Corp.
