GE job cuts in Fort Edward moved to early 2015

FORT EDWARD -- General Electric Co. will not begin cutting jobs at its Fort Edward plant until the first quarter of 2015, as the company phases out electrical capacitor manufacturing at the roughly 75-year-old plant.
The first quarter runs from January to March. A GE spokesman said he did not have any further details on the timeline, such as when full operations at the plant are scheduled to cease or how many jobs would be cut at the beginning of next year.
GE announced its intentions Sept. 18 to move operations which support 177 manufacturing jobs and 20 salaried positions to what the company calls a Center of Excellence in Clearwater, Fla.
Fort Edward employees, represented by the United Electrical, Radio and Machine Workers Local 332, engaged in a 60-day negotiation, attempting to present an alternative to keep the company in Fort Edward. GE made its official announcement in November that it would continue with its move.
