NYS 100th Assembly Race

Troopers union endorses candidates in special Assembly elections
http://midhudsonnews.com/News/2012/March/10/NYSTPBA_endorse-10Mar12.html

ALBANY – The New York State Troopers PBA has endorsed two Democratic candidates in special State Assembly elections coming up on March 20.

In the 100th district, the union selected former Assemblyman Frank Skartados. In the 103rd District, they chose Didi Barrett.

PBA President Thomas Mungeer said Skartados “is not afraid to tell it like it is.” He said Skartados “stands up for the middle class and hard working families.”

The seat is vacant since the death last year of then Assemblyman Thomas Kirwan.

Democrat Skartados will run against Republican Dutchess County Legislator John Forman.

Barrett, also a Democrat, was backed by the PBA because of her “community involvement and commitment to improving the region’s business climate.” She will face a challenge from Republican Richard Wager.

That seat became vacant when former Assemblyman Marcus Molinaro, a Republican, became Dutchess County executive.

Skartados recaptures Assembly seat

Skartados (file): "... jobs ..."
POUGHKEEPSIE – Democrat Frank Skartados took back his 100th District Assembly seat by defeating Republican John Forman in Tuesday’s special election. The unofficial vote total gives Skartados 5,440 votes to 3,527 for Forman, a Dutchess County legislator.

The seat was left vacant by the death of Assemblyman Thomas Kirwan last year. He defeated Skartados in the previous election.

Skartados said he looks forward to rolling up his shirt sleeves and getting back to work in Albany.

“My focus will be about jobs, economic growth, a fair tax code, innovation technologies, infrastructure,” he said. “The towns of Marlborough and Lloyd are in desperate need of infrastructure in terms of water and sewer and drainage; the cities need help.”

Skartados will have to run for a full two-year term in November.
