Charter school agreement in state budget spurs fierce opposition from teachers union and other advocacy groups

The state teachers union and other traditional school advocates are pushing back against the tentative budget agreement that would provide additional support for charter schools.

New York Communities for Change, which bills itself as a coalition of working families fighting for social and economic justice, blasted out a press release urging supporters to call Queens Sen. Tony Avella and urge him to block the charter school agreement. Avella recently bolted from the mainline Democratic conference and joined the Independent Democratic Conference
