Grimm and Recchia, in hot congressional battle, take early steps to carefully shape strategy and shed baggage

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - With eight months to go until Election Day, both sides in the battle between GOP Rep. Michael Grimm and Democratic challenger Domenic M. Recchia Jr. have amped up the volume in what is already one of the top House races in the country.

Grimm (R-Staten Island/Brooklyn) has touted a legislative victory in the passage of his flood insurance bill, and his schedule has been chock-full of official and campaign events.

Recchia, meanwhile, has been reaching out and touching voters in the district by attending house parties, going door to door, and meeting voters one-on-one to talk issues.
