Saratoga Springs mayor: No more casino votes planned

Caitlin Morris

SARATOGA SPRINGS >> Mayor Joanne Yepsen said she has no plans to introduce any future resolutions related to casino gaming after the state Gaming Commission released requests for applications earlier this week.

While the initial Upstate New York Gaming Economic Development Act did not give host municipalities much control over casino siting, the Request for Application (RFA) did by mandating a resolution be passed by the local legislative body as a condition of filing. The RFA clearly states, “the host municipality of a project site located in a city is the city,” which means the ball is in the City Council’s court.
